Despite the fact that Patriots Day is a regional holiday celebrated primarily in Boston and other parts of the northeast, you may not be able to participate, especially if you live elsewhere in the country. Nothing, however, prevents you from throwing your own Patriots Day party or other celebration.
Because Patriots Day is meant to commemorate a couple of very specific historical events, planning your own Patriots Day celebrations shouldn't be too difficult. The type of Patriots Day party you throw is determined by the size of the event, the amount of money you have to spend, and the part of Patriots Day you want to commemorate.
Here are some activities for Patriots Day 2022, ranging from simple to elaborate.
A small dinner party with a few close friends is a wonderful way to share your patriotism without going overboard if you don't want to spend a lot of time or money on your Patriots Day celebration. Because Patriots Day commemorates Paul Revere's ride and the battles of Lexington and Concord, you can choose foods that are historically appropriate.
This will require some research, but 18th-century recipes aren't difficult to come by. To round out the evening, you could decorate your home and table with patriotic colors and images, read patriotic poetry, listen to patriotic music, and share your favorite things about America.
You could re-enact Paul Revere's midnight ride, as they do in Boston and other parts of the country if you want to be a little more elaborate and bring Patriots Day to your entire community. This will necessitate some extra planning on your part: you'll almost certainly need city permits to hold a public event, as well as special permits to ride a horse within city limits, not to mention police escort if your event is large enough.
However, if you plan ahead of time and are willing to put in a lot of effort, you could start a long-lasting tradition in your hometown.
Why not organize a marathon in your community to commemorate Patriots Day if you really want to get people involved and don't mind putting in a lot of effort? Marathons are very popular these days, and if you approach local businesses and other organizations, you can get a lot of things donated to your cause. Organizing, funding, and executing a marathon is no easy task, but if you do it right the first time, you'll have plenty of volunteers for your second Patriots Day marathon.
Patriots Day celebrations aren't very common right now, but with a little effort, we could have Patriots Day celebrations from coast to coast. It's important to remember our Revolutionary War, and April could use a holiday to liven things up a little. Whether you throw a small Patriots Day party or start a tradition of recreating Paul Revere's ride, Patriots Day allows you to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who fought for our freedom.
